300th anniversary of the foundation of the Russian Academy of Sciences

On the 8th of February our country celebrates Russian Science Day. It marks the anniversary of the foundation of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) in February of 1724, following the order of Peter the Great.

The Russian Academy of Sciences is devoted to studying the laws of nature, society and the humankind. These studies help in developing various technologies, economy, and social and cultural spheres in Russia.

This year, RAS celebrates its 300th anniversary. The date is marked by many events that aim to popularize science and support young scientists. A solemn ceremony of the cancellation of the postal stamp (released specifically for the RAS’ anniversary) is also planned.

Lectures from Russian scientists have become a crucial part of the program of ISFF Tsiolkovsky. Each year they are preceded by full-dome films. Among those who have delivered a speech or a lecture at Tsiolkovsky ISFF are:

Professor Dmitry Wiebe, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, superintendent of the Physics and Star Evolution department of the Institute of Astronomy of the RAS;

Oleg Ugolnikov, Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, senior researcher at the Institute of Astronomy of the RAS;

Sergey Yazev, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, senior researcher at the Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics of the Siberian Branch of the RAS.

At the 5th Tsiolkovsky ISFF, the organizers plan to continue the tradition and once again make the lectures from top representatives of science in Russia part of the program, so that as many festival goers as possible could listen to them. For better understanding, full-dome films, provided by Russian as well as foreign planetariums, are going to be showcased.

The Tsiolkovsky International Space Film Festival in 2024 is held with the support of the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives, the Roscosmos State Corporation and the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center, the Government and the Ministry of Culture of the Kaluga Region, the Tsiolkovsky State Museum of the History of Cosmonautics, the Association of Planetariums of Russia, the Nika TV Company and other public and commercial organizations.

TASS is the main media partner of the festival.
