What Connects China and the Tsiolkovsky International Space Film Festival?

On May 16 and 17, Russian President Vladimir Putin is on a working visit to China. Among the members of the Russian delegation is Vladislav Shapsha, the governor of the Kaluga region, which annually hosts the Tsiolkovsky International Space Film Festival.

In his Telegram channel, Vladislav Shapsha highlighted the strong ties between the Kaluga region and China, including their connection through the cosmic film festival, where Chinese films have repeatedly won awards.
For instance, this year, the special prize was awarded to the short feature film Unofficial Space Mission. In 2023, the Chinese film Journey to the West won the award for Best Feature Film, while Moon Man received the Klushantsev Grand Prix. Additionally, during the fifth edition of the festival, China presented its first official documentary on Mars exploration: Hello, Mars - a five-episode series that attracted full audiences.

The jury of the Tsiolkovsky International Space Film Festival includes representatives from China, such as producer and director Yu Xiaogang, who is also the president of the Association of Television Drama Producers of China, and Gu Guoqing, president of China Film Promotion International Co.

The Tsiolkovsky International Space Film Festival is held with the support of the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives, State Corporation "Roscosmos," the Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center Research Institute, Rossotrudnichestvo, the Government and Ministry of Culture of the Kaluga Region, the State Museum of the History of Cosmonautics, the Russian Planetarium Association, and other public and commercial organizations.

The festival’s key media partner is TASS, with additional media support from Roscosmos Media and TRK "Nika."
