Premiere of Embracing the World in Peru

On Cosmonautics Day, the National Engineering University (NIU) of Peru hosted the premiere of the documentary Embracing the World, dedicated to the first human in space, Yuri Gagarin. The film was screened with Spanish subtitles. The screening was initially planned to coincide with the unveiling of a bust of Yuri Alekseyevich at the Peruvian university. However, due to a delay in the transportation of the sculpture, the unveiling was rescheduled for April 19.

The bust was a gift to the Republic of Peru from the Dialogue of Cultures – One World International Foundation, which is dedicated to preserving Yuri Gagarin’s legacy by donating sculptures of the legendary cosmonaut to nations around the world.

Before the film screening, the Dean of the Faculty of Mechanics, T. Vilches, emphasized that Yuri Gagarin’s bust will serve as a symbol of a new aerospace program that will be launched at the faculty with support from Russian specialized universities.

Maria Sereda, Cultural Attaché of the Russian Embassy in Peru, highlighted the long-standing tradition of scientific cooperation between Russia and Peru, particularly in space research projects involving NIU. She also noted the uniqueness of the documentary, which premiered on April 12 at The Tsiolkovsky International Space Film Festival.

University faculty members who had studied at Soviet universities and had even met Yuri Gagarin addressed the audience, recalling how Peru received the news of his historic spaceflight with great enthusiasm.

After the screening, future engineers highly praised the film, stating that it deepened their knowledge of the first cosmonaut and inspired them to pursue new achievements in their field of study.

Concluding the event, the dean of the faculty announced that from now on, NIU will celebrate Cosmonautics Day annually.

The premiere of Embracing the World took place on April 12 at The Tsiolkovsky International Space Film Festival. The film was produced by ANO “9 May” with the support of the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives, State Corporation Roscosmos, Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center Research Institute, Rossotrudnichestvo, the Ethnographic Park-Museum “ETNOMIR”, and the Dialogue of Cultures – One World International Foundation.
