Igor Ugolnikov is the acting president of the Tsiolkovsky ISFF that will take place in Kaluga from April 12 till April 16, 2023.
All the films are set in times of war and show the moral courage, bravery and heroism of the soldiers. Ugolnikov’s films have won a multitude of awards at both Russian and international festivals.
The Brest Fortress (rus. Brestskaia krepost), 2010
The Brest Fortress was the first to take the blow during the Great Patriotic War. For characters played by Andrey Merzlikin, Pavel Derevyanko, Alexander Korshunov and Aleksey Kopashov, it’s a fight to the death. The film’s slogan - ‘I am dying, but I won’t surrender’, - serves as the explanation why we have won.

A piercing story showcasing brilliant acting by Maria Aronova about the women-only Battalion of Death, led by Maria Bochkareva, a holder of the Cross of Saint George, during World War I.
The Final Stand (rus. Podolskie kursanty), 2020
Impressive decorations were built at the cinema complex of the ‘VoenFilm’ studio in Medyn’ in order to ‘teleport’ the audience to October of 1941, when the cadets of the Podolsk artillery and infantry schools were holding the Ilyinsky defence line.

The Tsiolkovsky International Space Film Festival will be held in Kaluga on April 12-16, with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives, the Roscosmos State Corporation, the Kaluga Region Government and the Ministry of Culture, the Kaluga City Administration, Rossotrudnichestvo, the K.E.
