Natalia BONDARCHUK will present SOLARIS at the TSIOLKOVSKY International Space Film Festival

Special event of the Tsiolkovsky International Space Film Festival is the screening of the legendary science fiction film by Andrei Tarkovsky Solaris (1972). The film is based on the novel of the same name by Stanislav Lem, which is about the ethical problems of humanity, viewed through the prism of contacts with extraterrestrial intelligence.

The film is the winner of the special Jury Prize of the Cannes Film Festival (1972), the prize at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (1972) and the prize for the best performance of a female role (Natalia Bondarchuk) at the Panama International Film Festival (1973). According to the results of some surveys, the film is included in the list of the greatest science fiction films in the history of world cinema. This year marks its 50th anniversary. In addition, this year marks the 90th anniversary of Andrei Arsenyevich Tarkovsky, the film director.

The screening will take place at Kaluga House of Music, and we tried to make it really solemn. Firstly, with the help of the musical accompaniment. It was important for Tarkovsky to ensure that music created a sound picture, an integral part of the impact of the planet Solaris. So, live music of Johann Sebastian Bach will accompany the screening, thanks to the only electronic organ in the Kaluga region, which, in terms of its technical parameters and sound quality, is practically not inferior to acoustic analogues.

This outstanding film will be presented to the public by the guest of honor of the festival - Honored Artist of the RSFSR, film director, screenwriter, the main film performer Natalia Sergeevna Bondarchuk. This amazing actress will tell the audience some stories about the filming process, her work with Andrei Tarkovsky, she will also show rare archival photos from the set, stored in her personal collection all these years. Clearly, such "before the screening" performance is quite limited in time, so we are very glad that Natalia Sergeevna agreed to hold a creative meeting with the audience within the framework of the festival, where she will tell about her acting and directing in more detail and will be able to devote sufficient time to answering questions.

The Space Festival organizers are convinced that meetings of festival guest and visitors with true masters of cinematography, screenings of world famous films and films which are our scientific and creative heritage are the most important parts of it. These events will be remembered for many years.
