Presentation of the Tsiolkovsky International Space Film Festival at RUSSIA Expo

Kaluga Region Day will be held at the RUSSIA Expo at VDNH on January 12. At events planned at various venues from 11.30am to 8pm visitors will be told about a global project to preserve the cultural code of the region, the ideas of cosmism on Kaluga Land, the unique space art known throughout Russia, as well as about the VoenFilm studio, which full-scale site is located in Medyn, Kaluga Region and the annual the Tsiolkovsky International Space Film Festival.

Governor Vladislav Shapsha will open the Kaluga Region Day at 11.30 am.

The presentation of the Tsiolkovsky International Space Film Festival will take place from 5:30pm to 6:30pm, as part of the marathon programme dedicated to the Kaluga region.

Natalia Abakumova, Director of the Tsiolkovsky State Museum of the History of Cosmonautics, will introduce the guests to the history and prospects of development of the world's first and Russia's largest space museum. The main focus will be on the development of current museum trends, in particular, holding large spectacular events attracting young people, such as the Tsiolkovsky International Space Film Festival.

Igor Ugolnikov, People's Artist of the Russia, film director, screenwriter, producer, General Director of the VoenFilm studio, inspirer and president of the country's most cosmic film festival, the Tsiolkovsky ISFF, will talk about the idea of creating a film forum, the importance of supporting regional authorities, and development prospects. He will focus on the educational function of the film festival. Not only interesting space film screenings and lectures are being prepared for the guests, but also communication with cinematographers, cosmonauts, famous creative personalities are expected. In April 2024, Kaluga will host the 5th season of the Tsiolkovsky International Space Film Festival.

Igor Prokopenko, journalist, documentary films director and screenwriter, Deputy General Director for documentary and journalistic projects of the REN-TV channel, program Director of the International Space Film Festival (documentaries section) will explain the basic principles of competitive selection — the Tsiolkovsky ISFF introduces its guests to all types of documentary films from mockumentary to chronicle; all films are united by the theme of space.

Irina Soshnikova, senior lecturer at the Department of Production Skills at the Gerasimov Institute of Cinematography, programme director of the International Space Film Festival (Feature Films and Animation sections), will talk about the formation of the competition programme of the 5th anniversary Film Festival, as well as the creative and geographical diversity of participants in the competition programme. Special attention will be paid to retrospective screenings.

The Tsiolkovsky International Space Film Festival in 2024 is held with the support of the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives, the Roscosmos State Corporation and the Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center, the Government and the Ministry of Culture of the Kaluga Region, the Tsiolkovsky State Museum of the History of Cosmonautics, the Association of Planetariums of Russia, the Nika TV Company and other public and commercial organizations.
