The Tsiolkovsky International Space Film Festival will take place in Kaluga from April 12 to 16. Its main venue will be the State Museum of the History of Cosmonautics named after K. Tsiolkovsky. Festival events and film screenings will also be held at the Kaluga Innovative Culture Center, the House of Folk Art and Cinema “Tsentralny,” and the V. Belinsky Kaluga Regional Scientific Library.
Visitors to the Tsiolkovsky Festival will have free access to more than 100 feature, documentary, animated, and full-dome films from 25 countries. They will also have the opportunity to explore the Soviet past through nostalgic retrospective screenings, attend lectures by scientists, theatrical performances, workshops, meetings with cosmonauts, writers, and filmmakers, and take part in special partner presentations.
Each year, the festival begins on a momentous date: the anniversary of the first human spaceflight. Traditionally, the opening ceremony is held within the walls of the Museum of the History of Cosmonautics, but this year, the organizers decided to step outside its doors. For the first time, the opening ceremony will take place on the museum’s outdoor grounds.
The main part of the ceremony will be held on the stage in front of the historic building of the State Museum of the History of Cosmonautics. It will be hosted by Honored Artist of the Russian Federation Nonna Grishaeva and Honored Art Worker of the Russian Federation Gediminas Taranda. The program promises to be vibrant and musical, featuring a welcome address from the festival’s president, People’s Artist of the Russian Federation Igor Ugolnikov, lively performances, and “cosmic” humor. A performance by composer and conductor, People’s Artist of the Russian Federation Pavel Ovsyannikov, is also expected. On the following day, April 13, Pavel Borisovich will present a unique musical show titled Forward, to the Stars! for symphony orchestra and academic choir, featuring all the musical and dance ensembles of the Kaluga Regional Philharmonic and the Municipal Chamber Choir of the Kaluga House of Music.
However, the true start of the VI Tsiolkovsky International Space Film Festival will be marked by the strike of the festival clapperboard. It signals both the beginning and end of a cinematic journey through the vast universe and beyond!
A resounding finale to Cosmonautics Day will be delivered by the KARMAPOLIS music festival, held right beneath the Vostok launch vehicle, aimed at the starry sky.
The Tsiolkovsky International Space Film Festival is held with the support of the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives, the Government and Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Kaluga Region.
