How can one hear the Universe at the Tsiolkovsky International Film Festival?
A unique "Full-dome Cinema" program will traditionally be presented within the framework of the IV Tsiolkovsky International Film Festival which will take place on April 12-16 in Kaluga.
The unique educational festival program will include five films that will be shown in the Tsiolkovsky State Museum Planetarium. The screenings will be preceded by lectures of famous scientists.
The guests of the festival will learn about sound waves propagating in other planets’ atmosphere, sounds obtained by sonification, the world of astronavigation, the treasures of the starry sky: star clusters, nebulae, galaxies; Supernova outbreaks and the formation of compact objects - neutron stars and black holes, and much more.
Dmitry Wiebe, Head of the Department of Physics and Evolution of Stars at the Institute of Astronomy of the Russian Academy of Sciences, will give a lecture on the history of the Solar System to the audience of the "Listening to the Universe" film made by The Large Novosibirsk Planetarium.
Sergey Yazev, Head of the ISU Astronomical Observatory (ISU РJSC), will speak about the obscure details of Moon flights followed by the screening of the "Space History of Russia" film by the Russian Planetariums Association.
One can also attend a lecture on the birth and fate of stars by Oleg Ugolnikov, a senior researcher at the Institute of Space Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences, before watching the "Guiding Stars" film by the Moscow Planetarium.
The lectures of Andrey Fesenko, an art critic and a scientific director of the B. A. Maksimachev Planetarium, will be dedicated to the seven star wonders and ancient myths. These lectures will be complemented by screenings of the Egyptian film "Seven Wonders of Ancient World" and the "Star Stories", a film made by the V.V. Tereshkova Cultural and Educational Center. These are dedicated to the Olympus gods’ images, who gave their names to the stars.
Andrey Lobanov, the Russian Planetariums Association co-chairman, is the Head of the "Full-dome Cinema" program of the Tsiolkovsky International Film Festival.
The Tsiolkovsky International Space Film Festival will be held in Kaluga on April 12-16, with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation, the Roscosmos State Corporation, the Government and the Ministry of Culture of the Kaluga Region, Rossotrudnichestvo, the K.E. Tsiolkovsky State Museum of the History of Cosmonautics, The Russian Planetariums Association and other public and commercial organizations.
