The submission period for the VI Tsiolkovsky International Space Film Festival, traditionally held from April 12 to 16 in Kaluga, has officially closed. Within the first 24 hours of the submission campaign, twenty entries were received, and by the deadline, the total count had reached 2,200 submissions from 120 countries. While this number falls short of the record 2,800 submissions in 2022, it significantly surpasses the figures for 2023 and 2024.
Filmmakers from BRICS and G7 countries, the European Union, ASEAN, and the African Union, as well as from Belarus, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Turkey, the Republic of Korea, and many other nations across all continents, have expressed their desire to present their works to Russian audiences.
The short fiction category received the highest number of submissions, while the number of entries in the fulldome section more than doubled compared to last year. As always, the competition in the documentary film category remains exceptionally strong.
The selection committee now faces the challenging task of curating programs for fiction, documentary, animation, and fulldome cinema. In addition to the competition screenings, festival guests can look forward to meetings with cosmonauts and filmmakers, retrospectives, special partner presentations, the nightly author’s program "Good Evening, Universe!" by Igor Ugolnikov, and the festival’s main musical event—Pavel Ovsyannikov’s heroic epic We Are the First!"
The State Museum of the History of Cosmonautics named after K.Tsiolkovsky will once again serve as the festival’s primary venue.
The 2025 Tsiolkovsky International Space Film Festival will be held with the support of the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives.
