In celebration of the 100th anniversary of Yakov Protazanov’s legendary film Aelita, based on Alexei Tolstoy’s novel, we have prepared a unique screening experience. The silent film will be accompanied live by Sergei Aksyonov, a pianist and tapёr from the State Film Archive of Russia.
This special event at the Tsiolkovsky International Space Film Festival will offer a fresh perspective on a Soviet cinema classic - or a chance to experience it for the first time. The film’s avant-garde Martian sets, designed by Viktor Simov in the Constructivist style, and costumes created by the renowned Isaac Rabinovich and Alexandra Exter with contributions from Nadezhda Lamanova, will transport you to the fourth planet from the Sun, immersing you in its fantastical world - all enhanced by the enchanting sounds of live piano.

The Tsiolkovsky International Space Film Festival in 2024 is held with the support of the Presidential Fund for Cultural Initiatives, State Corporation "Roscosmos", Yuri Gagarin Cosmonaut Training Center Research Institute, Rossotrudnichestvo, the Government and Ministry of Culture of the Kaluga Region, the State Museum of the History of Cosmonautics, the Russian Planetarium Association, and other public and commercial organizations.
